Introduction

 

The demand of human resource on leisure industry is increasing in the 21 century.  This trend forced the requirement of human power focus more on the quality demand than quantity demand.  Based on the trend, the Department of Leisure, Recreation and Tourism Management (LRTM) offers high quality of professional and international students to leisure related industries.  There are 16 full-time and 20 part-time experienced lectures from various leisure related background in LRTM.  These competitive lectures contribute high quality modules to enhance students’ leisure management related knowledge include tourism, hospitality and recreation management.  LRTM also facilitated some professional laboratories for many professional purposes includ management of information system, hospitality, beverage, fitness centre and project discussion.  Hence, all students want to know about the leisure related industries, LRTM is ready for them.

 

 

 

Aims

 

There are eight aims LRTM engaged.

 

(1)   Offering various modules to improve students’ leisure related knowledge.

(2)   Assisting students obtain leisure related licenses and pursuit their further degree.

(3)   Providing industrial cases on project research to enhance students’ practical ability.

(4)   Utilising ‘topping approach’ to improve students’ practical knowledge.

(5)   Improving students’ language ability for internationalization.

(6)   Participating local tourism design.

(7)   Integrating with other departments for cross-subject discipline.

(8)   Creating alumni system for students’ future carrier development.

 

 

 

Module Design

 

Compulsory modules include the introduction of leisure business, hospitality management, tourism management, leisure administration and law, business communication, human resource management, service quality, the introduction of recreational resource, the planning of leisure activity, research method, leisure project and placement.

 

Selection modules include tourism related subjects, hospitality subjects and recreational subjects.

 

 

Graduate

 

 

The graduates of LRTM are compatible to work in leisure related industries.  Some of LRTM’s gradates go for further study and some of graduates go for practice such as hotels, Bed & Breakfasts, restaurants, travel agents, theme parks, airlines, leisure farms, resorts, fitness centres…and etc.

 

 

 

Future Development

 

 

LRTM has five future development plans

 

(1)   Integrating with other university for sharing knowledge and resource.

(2)   Enlarging public services to improve students’ general knowledge.

(3)   Improving international academic exchange to improving lectures and students’ academic ability.

(4)   Combining practical and theoretical knowledge to offer students well-designed modules.

(5)Applying graduate school for upgrading LRTM’s academic level.
